Smokey Tofu Burgers

Smokey Tofu Burgers


Knife, chopping board, mixing bowl, potato masher, a baking tray with parchment, a small bowl to mix sauce.


Make burger patties:

  • In a mixing bowl, add tofu, cooked sweet potato, choptle, veg stock, tahini. 

  • Using a potato masher (or you can use a food processor) combine to form a paste like mixture.

  • Chop herbs and add to the mix.

  • Take a heaped tbsp of mixture in your hands and form into patties. 

  • Add a little flour to a small plate and coat both sides lightly.

  • Line a baking sheet and place patties on. 

  • Cook for 30 mins (turning after 20 mins).

Burger sauce:

Mix together 1 tbsp mayonaise, 1 tsp ketchup and 1/2 tsp mustard.

Suggestions for fillings:

  • Slice ghirkins into rounds

  • Thinly slice red cabbage, squeeze with lime and massage with hands to soften slightly.

  • Thinly slice avocado

Take a burger bun, wrap or plate up as a salad, layer up and enjoy.


For Burgers (Makes 4)

200g cooked sweet potato

280g firm tofu (regular/ smoked)

2 tsp chipotle paste/ smoked paprika

2 tsp veg stock

1 handful parsley

1 tbsp tahini

1 tbsp flour (to coat)

4 x Burger Buns

Filling Ideas:

Something pickled (gerkhin/spring onions/kimchi)

Something leafy (lettuce/ basil/ spinach)

Rainbow veg (avocado/tomato/red cabbage/ carrot)

Sauce/ Relish

Mustard, Mayo, Tomato sauce, Burger relish

This is a plant-based burger, but feel free to add cheese

if you fancy too - halloumi or cheddar would work well here.
